Course times are subject to small changes. - Do I need any previous knowledge?
-
No, you don't necessarily need any previous knowledge to join our Pilates training. However, it is beneficial to have some prior experience with Pilates to determine if you enjoy it and if it suits you. Additionally, a basic understanding of anatomy can be helpful but is not required. Our program is designed to accommodate all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners, ensuring everyone can learn and grow at their own pace. If you have any further questions or need more information, feel free to reach out to us!
- In which language does the teacher training take place?
-
The teacher training is conducted in German, and the training manual is also in German. The content on our online learning platform is a mix of English and German.
The practical exam can be taken in English.
- What happens, if I get sick or can't participate for other reasons?
-
If you have to cancel your participation in the Pilates teacher training in advance, the following cancellation terms apply:
More than 91 days before the start date: 25% of the fee is due. 15 to 90 days before the start date: 50% of the fee is due. 14 days or less before the start date: 100% of the fee is due.
These terms ensure that both parties are protected and that you have a clear understanding of the financial implications in case you need to withdraw due to illness or other personal reasons.
If you are unable to attend for personal reasons (illness or similar) during the training, we offer the option of attending the classroom days online. If this is not possible either, you must catch up on the missed lesson content yourself. We provide the teaching materials, but it would also be useful to get tutoring from classmates. However, in order to be admitted to the exam, you must attend at least 2/3 of the modules.
If you are ill on the day of the exam, you can take the exam at an individual alternative date for a fee upon presentation of a medical certificate. If you are still unable to complete the training for personal reasons, the training is deemed to have been failed.
- What happens if I don't pass the exam?
-
Our goal is to support you throughout the entire process and help you achieve your certification. There is a 45-minute theory exam with a mix of multiple-choice and open-ended questions.
In the theory exam, you must lead three exercises in a group. If you follow the class attentively, the exams are absolutely manageable.
If you fail the exam (although we will work together to ensure you rock everything), you can retake the exams up to two times for a fee. The re-examination fee is €50 per exam.
For the practical re-examination, we require a 20-30 minute video of a Pilates class with you and at least three participants.
You can retake the theory exam in the next training group. If you would like an earlier, individual appointment for the re-examination, the exam fee is €150.
- What are observation classes and why do I need them?
-
Observation classes are an essential part of your Pilates training. They provide you with the opportunity to gain more practical experience by observing a variety of different Pilates instructors. This allows you to deepen your practice, see different teaching styles, techniques, and how instructors interact with their students.
Completing these observation classes is crucial because it enhances your understanding of Pilates instruction, and you'll learn new methods and insights that you can incorporate into your own teaching practice. Additionally, you are required to submit an observation log to receive your certification at the end of the training.
You have the flexibility to choose the classes for your observation classes. To support you in this, we offer various options:
Online-Studio: You can take advantage of our online studio at FitLara Online Studio. A one-year membership to this online platform is included in your training fees, allowing you to observe classes from the comfort of your own home.
In-Studio-Classes: You can also complete 5 observation classes either in person or online at the studio, The Bodyworkers.
Other Studios: Additionally, we recommend exploring other studios for your observation classes. It's quite common to do this, and you can simply ask for observation classes at these studios.
These options ensure that you have ample opportunities to complete your observation classes in a way that suits your schedule and learning preferences.
- What is the difference between a confirmation of participation and a certificate?
-
After successfully attending the modules of the training (min. 2/3 presence), you will receive a confirmation of participation. This document acknowledges your attendance and involvement in the training sessions.
However, to obtain a certificate, which holds more significant professional value, you must meet additional requirements. Along with attending the modules, you need to pass the final exam and submit your observation log. The certificate is crucial for several reasons:
It is advantageous to have a certificate when seeking to teach Pilates in studios, as it demonstrates your comprehensive training and qualification.
It is required if you want your classes to be recognized as preventive health classes by organizations such as the ZPP (Zentrale Prüfstelle Prävention).
- How long is the certificate valid?
-
Our certificates are valid indefinitely.
Many other training institutes require an annual fee combined with continuing education to maintain the certificate's validity. The idea is fundamentally good, because only those who continually develop themselves as trainers are good trainers.
But we take a different approach and want to offer you more flexibility:
Every year, we hold several 3-4 hour workshops on various topics that are essential for you as a trainer. We highly encourage you to continue your training and would be delighted if you choose us again. However, you can also complete your training independently or elsewhere. There is no obligation to do so. - Which Pilates style is taught? BASI or STOTT Pilates?
-
STOTT Pilates places a stronger emphasis on anatomical accuracy and a modern interpretation of the Pilates method, while BASI Pilates strives to preserve the legacy of Joseph Pilates while integrating contemporary knowledge. Both styles offer effective and safe Pilates methods tailored to the needs of different people.
We believe both are right and important and teach classic Pilates Mat techniques in a modern and contemporary style. However, we have developed our own style and are neither exclusively affiliated with STOTT nor BASI Pilates.
Our curriculum includes history, philosophy, and Pilates principles, as well as a comprehensive anatomy course.
As well as nine warm-up exercises, 26 classic Pilates exercises for the main part, and three recovery exercises.
We teach you how to plan, structure, and lead a class.
You are welcome to join Lara's Pilates classes to get a feel for her style. She teaches with incredible joy and precision and will pass this knowledge on to you.
Our training is comparatively comprehensive and extremely practical, so that you are immediately able to teach confidently afterwards. - Is the training listed at Pilates Verband?
-
Our training is not listed with the Pilates Association. We made this decision consciously.
First of all: Pilates is not a licensed course format, which means no association can claim the right to award Pilates licenses or, conversely, to declare them invalid. Certain training standards have been established, such as the 100 teaching units and the 20 hours of internship. Only then can recognition by the ZPP be achieved. We have, of course, adhered to these standards. Unfortunately, not everyone does. Therefore, there are also weekend Pilates training courses on the market. It's understandable that these don't produce any good trainers.
It's not fundamentally wrong for an association to want to bring some order to this.
But the seal is not a prerequisite for a valid license. We decided against it because we are aware of the quality of our training even without a seal. To carry such a seal, we would have to pay a high annual fee. As teachers, you would also have to pay a fee to be listed. The entry requirements are heavy on bureaucracy and lack real quality. We'd rather invest the money and time in a good script and an on-demand learning platform.
